Stupid Biscuits

I made bird foo-er, Buttermilk Biscuits the other day. Followed a Southern Living Recipe. I took a picture of the poor things (400 degrees 15 minutes was TOO LONG), but even Blogger doesn't like my biscuits. Won't upload the picture. They weren't horrible, we did manage to eat a few of them, but as Chuck mentioned, they weren't "savory", and the birds got the rest of them. Will attempt again, some other time.

They instituted a "Hey kids, lets have a show" thing. Let's change a process that you've been using for the past 6 years. All well and good. But they give you limited info, and change it during a time when there are two holidays, half the staff is on vacation, (Including the Large-Brained Ring Leader who started this nonsense). It's been a bit disruptive to say the least. Poorly implemented. I would expect nothing less from the brain trust in Kentucky and Ohio.

We thought our computers were full. That they were old and slow, needed replacement. Well, that's kinda true. They are old. We both have external drives for all the extra stuff we think we need to keep. But they are no longer slow.

Turns out the old Wireless Router was on it's last legs. The poor thing worked every single day and night for the last 5 years or so. It just gave up. Could take no more.

The replacement Linksys works like a charm. Yay!

Never until last night did I have full bars of signal on my iPod Touch. Nifty!

Atlanta

Oh, Atlanta. What a city to drive in!

Michael's Father's graveside service was on the West side of Atlanta. Very sad and sobering to see 2 kids our daughter's age bury their father.

And then the drive to the Northeast side of Atlanta, where Michael's Grandparents live. Crazy fast drivers. It seems faster, sure, because we were unfamiliar with the place, but I really don't think anyone was doing less than 75, unless it was congested.

Felt welcomed at the Grandparents home. Very nice "Southern Living" home, but homey and welcoming. Their church fixed and brought to the house a fine meal. Wonderful southern cooking. Lots of pecans.

I have Giant Peaches! From my little 4 year old, 15-20 foot peach tree. I do not remember the variety, but this year, it went all out with the peaches. Yay!

Next time I will know to shove the peaches in the jar a bit tighter. In a few days, I will have enough peaches for another 12 pints. Peaches (and tomatoes) from the store should be outlawed!

We took a drive to Parke County to visit some covered bridges. We learned that we don't want to be anywhere near that place during the Covered Bridge Festival. From what we saw, the place just goes insane with people. Crowds beyond belief.

Daughter is flooded. Said there were fish in her parking lot yesterday. She didn't have to work yesterday or today, and she did the Florida version of "French Toast Supplies" the day before. In Florida, it's canned goods and water, not milk, bread and eggs. No power, no French Toast. She is a block from a big hospital, and is on their power grid, so that's a good thing.

Saturday was busy, and tiring and amazing. Chuck's work buddy, Mike Novak, his wife Barb and the two of us did the tour of our new Stadium for the Colts. Lucas Oil Stadium is massive. Just huge. But it fits well with our other two sports venues, Conseco Fieldhouse, home of the Pacers and Victory Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians.

Saturday was also Mel's birthday. Mel works long hours at Conner Prairie, and it is my opinion that she needs to pamper herself a bit after wearing period clothing all day in the hot sun. So I got her smelly, girly stuff. Several of the crew gathered at the Chatterbox for cake (we offered Jack some cake, but, since his house wasn't on fire, he refused the offer. Long story.) Cake and cookies (the last of the wheat for Kay) and Woodchucks and Coronas and Rolling Rocks and Sams. And my feet were throbbing from the walking I'd done that day, so we headed home earlier than some, later than others.

Home enough in time to see Michael Phelps make history. Now for the next few days, everybody will pretend they are still watching the Olympics.

Just before Coffee at Conseco yesterday morning, we heard/saw sirens, engines, rescue all speeding to somewhere east of us. We saw trucks head down the alley directly beside Conseco Fieldhouse. After Coffee, as I walked to my place of employment, I came upon the scene. We heard later, from the "Crandallerts" we get at work, that one SUV was a complete loss and 6 other vehicles were damaged. This is the parking garage of my co-workers.

This is where the near miss took place. Almost to work. Heading West on Washington. Someone in the right lane slowly turning off Washington on to Highland. I'm in the left hand Westbound lane. The smartest girl in the world decides to pull across 4 lanes of Washington Street from Highland. I honestly don't think you could've slid a piece of paper between the front of my car and the front of hers. Did she back up and get the HELL OUT OF THE WAY?!? Why no. She suffers from "I'm the only person in the Universe" syndrome. She proceded to pull out across the other two lanes of Washington Street. I didn't spill a drop of iced tea, nor did I take my eyes off her as she maneuvered around the other commuters. Seeing as how I was in a convertible, I think she just might have heard me as I admonished her to "Pay no mind to the rest of us, you go right on ahead, hon!"

5:32AM LIGHTS ON DOG BARKING SOMEONE AT THE DOOR!!!!!!!!!

Chuck answered the door while I grumbled in the bedroom. I have to work today. Sleeping from 3AM until 5:30 ain't gonna cut it!

I heard what seemed like 20 minutes of mumbling from the front room, and then Chuck appeared at the bedroom door with the suitcase!

We had told Officer Denny when he arrived to do the police report thingy that maybe (HA) someone had just moved it out of the way for "safekeeping" until daylight. Silly crime victim, grasping at straws. And we all laughed and knew that wasn't going to happen.

It was Officer Denny at the door with the suitcase. A good Samaritan was involved. The Newspaper Delivery person had found the suitcase at the back of the neighborhood, called it in, our policeman heard the news and thought "I know where that goes!"

I will make a call to the Indianapolis Star and commend them on their Newspaper Delivery person for this area. Thanks! And thanks, Officer R. Denny of the IMPD!

Remember kids, always file a police report.

By the way, when filing my police report, I used the "Non-Emergency" number, not 911.

So, off to work. 3 and 1/2 to 4 hours of sleep will have to do.

We got home a tad before 1 AM (took the back roads thur KY). Didn't get the suitcase in the house. Because some ASS stole it. We had it out of the car, behind the car. I took in the cooler, Chuck unhooked the Satellite Radio. Because he heard me struggling a bit with the cooler, he thought I had the suitcase. Nope. Suitcase left outside behind the car. For maybe 10 minutes. Maybe. We realized we didn't have it in the house, went out to check. Gone.

I am now waiting for the cops. Have to file a police report.

Comcast is watching me. And I think that's a neat thing.

No, there isn't a secretly installed camera in my television. (as far as I know) but Comcast has geeks working for them. Doing something that I would LOVE to get paid for. Finding out when people complain, and then attempting to calm them down or solve the problem.

The guy that came out Sunday solved the problem. Chuck has interesting photos of the event over at his site. This kid was the first one that had ever asked to see the Inside Connection. Which was 17 years old and needed to be replaced.

We've lived here since Meredith started first grade. Since cable companies have monopolies on what areas of a town they cover, we have always had Comcast. In the last year or so, they've been giving me FITS!

Today, Chuck checked with the Keeper of the Office Records at his place of employment, and yes, we are both scheduled off next week. And we both forgot.

Now, I like my job. I really do. I do not like some of the "tools" I have been given to do my job, but I like my job. I can literally change people's lives. I can (sometimes) make the convoluted idiocy that can be health insurance understandable.

But I do not like my job enough to forget scheduled vacation time.

Technical Difficulty

I love my Garmin Nuvi. (we DID NOT pay retail for this thing, yay!) But the old adage applies. Garbage in, garbage out. It will show you where to go, based on your input. Something in the inputting must have gone a bit wonky for Meredith and Michael, because Chuck got a phone call last night (this morning) *midnight* from Meredith. "We are in North Carolina!" Chuck had sent Meredith one of these Garmins for her birthday. She made it up here without driving through South Dakota, but the way back, another story.

Chuck and I tried in vain at midnight to set our Garmin to "Show us the way to Florida, with the Atlantic in view as much as is possible", but ours does not have that setting. Meredith's apparently does.

So the daughter can add 3 more States to the places she's been.

Someday, I'm sure she'll go back when she can see Savannah in the daylight!

Cable Trouble. To be exact, Digital cable trouble. Do not for the life of me understand this. One digital channel will come in, the next channel will not. I get a message that "This channel will be available shortly....."

The Comcast people (hopefully) will make an appearance Thursday. This will be their second attempt. We were scheduled for a 7 to 9 AM visit this past Friday. 9 AM came and went and off we went to work. The "tech" called around 11-ish and said his shift didn't start until 10. I made a point of asking for someone this time who actually WORKED during the time they have me scheduled. Silly me, I guess I needed to do that the first time. What was I thinking!?!?!

Screen shot of just a few minutes ago. More storms coming. Chuck just read me an email from Kay, the Moscow, IN Covered Bridge is gone. That was earlier today. Watching the radar at work (sorry, Boss) a giant, inverted "C" shape of deep red made it's way from one side of Indiana to the other. Basically held that curved shape as it moved across the state. That's what popped out 2 tornados in Southern Indiana earlier today. Hope it cools down some and shuts down some of this activity. But, its 11:20 and 71 degrees.

This Rhododendron has been in a pot for 3 years. My thought is to put it in the semi-shady front yard bed, where I can control the acidity of the soil. That's been my thought for the past 3 years. The poor thing is now blooming. "HEY, look what I can do! I'd do alot MORE of it if you'd put me somewhere DECENT!"

The torrential rain last night (nearly 3 inches worth in our yard) turned the front "porchette" into a miniature version of Falling Water. *Don't I wish*

After a trip to the eye doc to pic up our new spectacles, Chuck scratched one off the honey do list and cleaned out the gutters. The muck from the gutters would probably grow a full sized redwood in a week.

Gardening and A "Virtual Fence"

I live in a goofy neighborhood. One that has (or had, I really have to check into this) a "Neighborhood Association". A list of rules to keep the property values stable, or some such reason. Thus my reprimands for the heinous sin of....*gasp*....hanging clothes out to dry on a line, and heaven forbid, a giant kiddy pool. Pools apparently aren't allowed unless they are in ground pools. A giant inflatable "kiddy/family" pool is an ABOVE GROUND POOL and is verboten. I sort of checked into this 2 years ago when I was told to remove the offending pool, but haven't done anything since. The short time the square pool was up last year, there was no letter.

I am also not allowed a fence, as it wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing, what with my location in the neighborhood. At the entrance, with the original fencing around the compound/neighborhood. So.......Chuck built a virtual fence. There are fence posts and wire. Ostensibly, it is for garden stuff to climb up, not a fence for privacy.

That was what Chuck did most of the day yesterday. I helped out by holding and eyeballing. Hard work, that.

It turned out to be a great day for delivering poo! Kay and I offloaded Little Darlin' and in return, I came home with plants and plants and plants. Onion sets and a peony and STUFF! Yay! It is a tad windy now, but the sky is blue and the temperature is 63.

Chuck did Garage tinkering. I now have shelves for canning jars! They are not randomly placed throughout the house! Chuck tech edited. Chuck made coffee. He weeded.

I shoveled some poop out of the truck. There shall be poop for Kay. I know I'm going to have some left (don't want to over fertilize and burn up the plants!)

I washed clothes. And even folded some!

Ah, Craigslist. You can find good stuff. Sometimes.

I found manure for gardens. Rich, JD and I drove out past Fortville, Indiana to a small farm. The folks had a goat, ponies and I can't recall seeing any horses. Neighbors had llamas. Neat! Got a truck bed full o' crap and Rich got a trailer full. The tomatoes will be better this year! And the salsa and tomato pies were wonderful last year! Can't wait!
